It all took place a long time ago, in a faraway galaxy. The biggest film saga ever to be conceived began with the ideas of George Lucas, a marketing and movie genius. Approximately 30 years ago, the motion-picture Star Wars was released, and it became a worldwide phenomenon. Science fiction was one of the many things heavily influenced as a result. In the United States alone, A New Hope grossed about $500,000 in the box office. A total of six official films have been made to this day, and the franchise continues to grow. Star Wars changed the way we all look at movies. The setting takes place in a fictional universe that follows the adventures of Luke Skywalker. He is a farmboy who escapes his home planet to team up with various rebels, and tries to save a princess from the evil clutches of a dark lord. These are the films that changed it all. Star Wars is one of the most successful, influential, and highly praised sagas throughout movie history.

As the motion picture's open title fades away from the screen, the viewers are cast into the vast fantasy world of various planets, locales, gigantic spaceships, and exciting battles. The saga is divided into two trilogies - the originals and the prequels. The classic trilogy came first, which spanned Episodes four through six. Ten years later came the prequel trilogy, which preceded the storyline from before. The first three episodes chronicle the tragic fall of an old government and the rise of a tyrannical empire. It is also the story of Anakin Skywalker, who was raised as a gifted "Jedi" but ultimately falls to the "Dark Side of the Force". He becomes the intimidating "Darth Vader" in the process. The installments from the 70s and 80s pick up 20 years after the prequels. The son of Anakin, Luke, joins the rebellion against the evil empire. Eventually he learns of his heritage and becomes a "Jedi" like his corrupted father. In the very end, Darth Vader saves Luke from the sadistic Emperor Palpatine and the Galactic Empire is defeated. The story of Star Wars sends the viewers on a journey they will never forget, and the plot was the backbone to all of the amazing movies.

The storyline wasn't the only key to the success of George Lucas. Every film is reputable for their mind-boggling special effects. The directing and acting is superb. The musical scores flow wonderfully with the action. Lucas is famous for using incredible technology, which leads to many people believing that virtual effects in movies would be nonexistant if not for his innovation of the movie industry with Star Wars. Many films of the same calibre were overlooked because of cheesy effects, but definetly not these! Altogether, it totally changed the world of movies. Star Wars has a place in the hearts of many, many people! Even with the release of the final installment in the saga, Revenge Of The Sith, nobody can say for sure that Star Wars is said and done. Revised versions and never before seen documentaries are to be included in future DVD releases. Star Wars, no matter what, will ever be forgotten by the general public.

All six films may be complete, but the fictional galaxy is still a wide open field. Thousands of books, magazines, comics, and video games are out there based on the same faraway galaxy.	There are hundreds of fan clubs and communities devoted solely to Star Wars. These factors undoubtedly prove how successful Star Wars has been. We all owe it to one famous movie director and writer. From the text crawl at the very beginning to the ending credits, each of the six Star Wars movies put us in a whole new fantasy world. The movie industry and our outlook on motion pictures just wouldn't be the same today if it wasn't for the Star Wars saga.
