Henry Ford was born in 1863, the son of Irish immigrants. He dropped out of school at the age of 15 and worked as a machinists apprentice in Detroit. In 1891 he became a engineer for the Edison Illuminating Company. He was promoted to chief engineer in 1893, this gave him enough time to do his experiments to his personal experiments with gasoline engine. These experiments helped him make his “Quadricycle” in 1896. Ford went to Edison Illuminating in 1899 with other investors and they formed the Detroit Automobile Company. The company soon after went bankrupt, because Ford kept improving design and not selling cars. He raced his cars against cars by other manufacturers to show the supremacy of his cars to the others. His interest in racing cars led him to form the Henry Ford Company. In 1902 Ford continued to work on his racing cars to the dismay of his investors. The investors wanted a high-end production model so they got Henry M. Leland to do it. Ford resigned because he thought they were overriding his authority. At a later time he stated “I resigned, determined never again to put myself under orders.”. The company was reorganized as Cadillac. The Model T debuted in 1908.
