Some general game play tips:
By default you have a total of 5 gear/item slots, which 2 of them are mandatory used for primary and sidearm
You can however have multiple weapons and items if you pick them up from dead bodies, eg: you can pick up smoke-nade even if you already have HE-nade. But you cannot have 2 primary weapons, however you can have 2 secondary weapons if you don't have a primary weapon type.
Game is not strict class based, but you could say the class you play are more defined by the items/weapons you are equipped with
Movements are important: circle jumping, bunnyhopping, walljumping, powersliding, ledge grab. No strafe jumping (reduce your max speed potential if you do).
The laser item reduce spread and recoil by about 20%
Silencer removes your weapon's muzzle flash and add a reduce of 10% on spread and recoil
LR300 and M4 has almost identical performance properties, just has different sound mainly
Unscoped PSG-1 and SR8 has no accuracy at all
Some weapons cannot be equipped with certain items, eg: Deagle does not take silencers

The binary provided in this forum thread <http://forums.urbanterror.net/topic/8709-ikalizer-new-audio-engine-surround-sound-urbanterror-v02200b-newpatch/> enables 48kHz, surround (HRTF) positioning audio. Use it
Anisotropic filter in the game engine is sub-par compared to the forced settings with ATI/NV 3D settings. While at it, turn FSAA on to remove the jagged edges and enable Adaptive-AA(ATI) or Transparency-AA(NV) to apply that for foilage as well.
Note for a Quake player: r_picmip is limited to 2 as max value
If you're a pro Q3 engine config scripter, you can have a look at my config <http://nexu.pwnz.org/gaming/urbanterror/cfg/itnexu.cfg> to see all the bindings you can do
