Setup is trixbox latest, 3 GXP-2000 phones, DID IAX trunk via Vitelity. re-recorded g729 default prompts from astlinux. 6 digium g729 licenses purchased and installed. Both the phones and the trunk are using g729. After a clean boot, the first incoming call ties up all available licenses (show g729 - 6/0 encoders/decoders of 6 licensed channels are currently in use) and debug log spams (codec_g729.c: Out of G.729 Encoder Licenses!). Call is answered automatically by the * with a custom greeting (which isn't heard because it's not in g729 format) and then dumps into a queue. Default prompts are heard. After the call ends, the license usage stays at 6 of 6, and doesn't release any licenses without a restart. Not sure how to troubleshoot it any further.
