Hi, I am trying to setup Linux on an older gentleman's laptop. Having issues with wireless, so I bought a card on ebay that said it works with Linux.. and it almost works...
I cannot seem to associate with an access point or get to "infrastructure" mode instead of "ad-hoc" mode. If I set a IP address manually, it shows signal strength and sent frames, but no TX frames.
Trying to use the network icon thing... it shows SSID of different nets but won't get on any of them.
iwconfig says it is in ad-hoc mode.
Also some other command (iwlist ?? ) shows some access points nearby with signal strength but still can't associate with the router or get out of ad-hoc mode...
Anyone ideas? This is latest release of ubuntu, with very newest stable kernel, card is Ashton Digital WRUB-2011i. It's a USB part.
Any ideas for things to try are greatly appreciated!!! I have spent at least 10 hours trying to get some kind of wireless connectivity on this laptop.
