Einstein was born on March 14, 1879 in Ulm, Germany and became one of the most widely known physicists today. He is credited with several scientific breakthroughs including the explanation of the photoelectric effect for which he won the Nobel Prize in 1921. In the 1860s James Maxwell showed that the speed of light is constant in a vacuum which gave Einstein a foundation for one of the greatest discoveries of the 20th century. During the 1900s, Einstein had published several papers on his discovery of General and Special Relativity which completed revolutionized our concept of the universe. (Albert Einstein, 2006)
