Trust
A game for legitimate businessmen.
Description
---
Trust is a game for four or more players played on IRC. At the start of the game, every player has $1000 and a business, which generates $500 per round. However, players don’t get to keep the money their business generates—they have to distribute it to other players.
At the start of each round, players are informed of how much money they have (publicly) and how much they received last round (privately).
The discussion stage then begins. Players can and should be constantly talking in the channel and via private messages, because the game is all about making and breaking plans and agreements.
At this stage players can use their money to request services from the syndicate, a non-player entity, via PMs with the bot. The syndicate will accept money to:
• Protect a player (minimum $500)
• Spy on a player (minimum $500, double to not reveal the instigator)
• Kill a player (minimum $1000, double to not reveal the instigator)
Players can only make one request of the syndicate per round in each category. That is, you can protect, spy, and kill, but you can only target one player for each category. Players can protect themselves or protect other players. Payments made to the syndicate are for one round only, and do not carry over or accumulate.
Once everyone has finished or a timer has run out, players distribute their $500 of profits (only profits—money in the bank cannot be moved around) to other players, via PMs with the bot. Any unallocated money will be evenly distributed to all other players.
The syndicate will then process player requests (which accumulate, e.g. if multiple people make kill payments for a single player, the kill price will be the total):
If the kill price on a player is higher than the protection price, the syndicate will kill that player. If the kill price is at least double the minimum, the player who instigated the kill will remain private.
If the spy price on a player is higher than the protection price, the syndicate will reveal that player’s current monetary situation and what requests (if any) they made of the syndicate. If the spy price is at least double the minimum, the player who requested the information will remain private.
If there are more than two players left in the game, a new round starts and the game goes on. When there are only two players remaining, whoever has the most money wins. The game might also end after a pre-determined number of rounds (again awarding the victory to the wealthiest player).
