[16:46] Nosforit: I think I've discovered the mental equivalent to the atom of ancient Greek.
[16:46] Nosforit: Anybody want to hear about it?
[16:46] Dekishitai: oh? Care to elaboratE?
[16:46] Nosforit: Gladly. =)
[16:47] Nosforit: The Greek defined the atom as something undividable
[16:47] Nosforit: something which could not be split in two, because it was the smallest.
[16:47] Dekishitai: the smallest thing, no?
[16:47] Nosforit: Hai.
[16:47] Nosforit: Wait...
[16:48] Nosforit: Agh. Damn Japanese grammar. I forgot if I'm supposefd to asner Hai or Iee to a negative question I want to confirm.
[16:49] Nosforit: Oh well, I'll look it up later.
[16:49] Nosforit: Anyway
[16:49] Dekishitai: better just say hai here, at least i'll understand what you mean
[16:49] Nosforit: Yes.
[16:49] Dekishitai: the question was in english anyway
[16:49] Nosforit: Truly.
[16:49] Nosforit: Anyway
[16:50] Nosforit: I've been reading Tobias Dantzig's Number, and I don't get past two pages without understanding something new.
[16:52] Nosforit: And the past few chapters Dantzig's been explaining how we came from 1,2,3,4,...,n, to -n,...,-2,-1,0,1,2,...,n, to fractions and so on
[16:52] Nosforit: And now he's dealing with the type of number pi is.
[16:53] Nosforit: Namely, one which continues on forever and which can not be expressed as something divided by something.
[16:53] Nosforit: Pi is, quite simply, undividable.
[16:54] Nosforit: And pi isn't unique as an undividable number either.
[16:54] Nosforit: For every 'normal' number there is, there is an infinite amount of undividable numbers between them.
[16:56] Nosforit: An undividable number says enough on its own; the mental, or logical, or causal, equivalent of the physical 'atom' of the ancient greek.
[16:57] Nosforit: And every undividable number is completely unique on its own.
[16:58] Nosforit: Now I find this especially interesting as I'm subscribing to the concept of the 'monad' of theosophy.
[16:58] *** aniler has joined #occultforums.
[16:58] Nosforit: A monad exists in the physical, emotional, mental, and so on planes.
[16:59] aniler: hi
[16:59] Nosforit: Hello.
[16:59] Dekishitai: Hi aniler
[16:59] *** lostsanity has signed off IRC (Quit: ).
[17:00] Nosforit: And if there's a provable mental equivalent to the 'atom' of the physical world, the theosophic world-view is in a sense vindicated.
[17:00] Nosforit: Simultaneously
[17:01] Nosforit: we are able to contain the mental world as an existance complete on its own.
[17:01] Dekishitai: that would give support to alot of diffrentphilosophies i would think
[17:01] Dekishitai: complete on its own?
[17:02] Dekishitai: :-/
[17:02] Nosforit: The human identity in the mental world would be equivalent of one of these infinite and individable numbers.
[17:02] Nosforit: There would be no need to claim a higher existence from which human consciousness flows.
[17:03] Nosforit: The infinite number provides the seed from which the logical processes can create a completely unique being.
[17:04] Nosforit: The processes are the same for everybody, but the starting point, the number, is unique for everybody.

[17:05] aniler: lol didn't realise i was that scary lol
[17:06] Dekishitai: ever heard of people considered a sort of net of reflective pearls?
[17:06] aniler: nope
[17:06] MichaelB: hello aniler
[17:06] Dekishitai: each pearl being identical as such, but each one, being at a different position in the net, reflects a different image of the net
[17:06] aniler: hi
[17:06] Nosforit: And since the number is infinitely long, even if it could have a value as low as something between 0 and 1, it would be enough to provide all the randomness involved in human behaviour.
[17:06] MichaelB: how are you this day ?
[17:06] aniler: ALIVE lol
[17:07] aniler: you ?
[17:07] MichaelB: me too :)
[17:07] Nosforit: Reflective.
[17:07] MichaelB: keep enduring
[17:07] aniler: we will lol
[17:07] Nosforit: Dekishitai, yes, I've had similar lines of thought aswell. I think that system and this system could be mapped to each other; different explanations of what is essentially the same.
[17:08] Dekishitai: that's why I mentioned it, they seemed similar
[17:08] Nosforit: Hm
[17:08] Dekishitai: and as for the "pearls" by reflecting everything, they in a manner contain everything
[17:08] Nosforit: In order to give a machine consciousness, I need to endown it with a unique number.
[17:08] Dekishitai: or something like that. too hot to think
[17:09] Nosforit: But I cannot store an infinitey long number in a computer.
[17:09] Nosforit: However,
[17:10] Nosforit: 1.5 is just as unique a number as 2132.2176872641...etc ad infinitum.
[17:10] Nosforit: And through a mathematical formula I can create a number which appears to be random.
[17:11] Nosforit: Basically we reduce machine consciousness to a high-quality random number generator.
[17:12] Nosforit: Now I must figure out how it works that every individual number is unique and yet the same.

[17:12] Nosforit: Paradoxial I know, but that is how I achieve understanding.
