Andrew Morris: hello?
Roselyn: Hello Anderw.
Roselyn: Welcome to HP Total Care . My name is Roselyn. How may I help you today.
Andrew Morris: hi, sorry, just checking it was working
Andrew Morris: My wireless card has stopped functioning, and before i buy a new chip, i wanted to flash the bios to make sure the card was in fact broken. I have a Compaq F555AU, but the only avaliable BIOS flash for this model is for Windows Vista. I do not use windows at all, and was wondering if there is another method i can use to flash my BIOS. I.E via DOS mode?
Roselyn: Thank you for the information.
Roselyn: Andrew, Just to confirm have you installed BIOS update driver for your notebook?
Andrew Morris: Only the version that came with the laptop, i believe the latest version (1.1F is later than what i have) but i cannot install the BIOS update driver as it is for windows, and i do not have windows
Roselyn: What operating system do you have installed (Windows 98, Me, 2000, XP, Vista)?
Andrew Morris: I do not have windows installed, i use a linux operating system
Roselyn: Thank you for the information.
Roselyn: Andrew, I am afraid to say HP recommands only preinstalled operating system.
Roselyn: We have BIOS drivers for Xp and vista only.
Roselyn: I Hope you understand.
Andrew Morris: I do... How is it that the XP and Vista BIOS drivers work by the way... it used to be that to Flash one's BIOS, it had to be in DOS mode, and that if you did it via win32 mode, you ran the risk of frying your mother board...
Roselyn: Andrew, Flashing the BIOS in Linux may cause sevior issues.
Andrew Morris: yes, i am aware of that, i didnt want to flash it in linux, i wanted to flash it in DOS mode
Roselyn: Andrew, we do not have BIOS drivers for DOS operating system.
Andrew Morris: ok, thankyou for your help
Roselyn: Sorry for the inconvenience caused to you.
Roselyn: Thank you for your time and patience.
Roselyn: I will now close our Chat session. Please contact us if you have any additional questions or if you require further clarification.
Roselyn: Chat support is available 24 hrs a day, 7 days a week.
