  1. The Story - How to crap on your data disk - Rev 1.0
  2. ---------------------------------------------------
  3. Day 1
  4. -----
  5. Ok. Came in last Tuesday Morning Nov 21st, hardware error on c1d0.
  6. I could not boot the system. Contacted ArcServe Admin. Only backups available are Nov 12th
  7. Tried to fsck the drive. Maxtor reports physical disk errors. I replaced the drive and reinstalled Solaris.
  8. Day 2
  9. -----
  10. Knowing that i always store my backups on c2d0 just in case. I check there for all of the backups.
  11. I can't remember which slice has the backups. So i type 'format'.
  12. I type 'pa' to view partitions. The question below appeared.
  13. **************************************************************************
  14. No fdisk table exists. The default partition for the disk is:
  15.
  16.   a 100% "SOLARIS System" partition
  17.
  18. Type "y" to accept the default partition,  otherwise type "n" to edit the
  19.  partition table.
  20. **************************************************************************
  21. I answered 'yes'.
  22. *boom*
  23. Partition Table is wiped.
  24. prtvtoc shows a different output to previously.
  25. All slices are inaccessible.
  26.
  27. My backups are on c2d0s3 (was mounted as /backups)
  28.
  29. I only need to get that slice back.
