A.      Description. 

Listen to the following descriptions. Then, choose the person that best matches the description. You will hear each description TWICE.

 

I.      Perry: I saw a really cute girl on the train yesterday.

Eric:   Oh? What did she look like?

Perry: She had short blonde hair, and she was wearing a long shirt and pants. She was really tall, too.

Eric: Did you talk to her?

Perry: No, of course not!

Eric: Ugh…

 

II.     The suspect is described as a white male between the ages of thirty-five and forty. He is approximately one hundred and ninety centimeters tall, with long black hair. He weighs about one hundred and forty kilograms, and was last seen in a black jacket. If you have any information, please contact your local authorities.

 

III.    Mike: We still need an actress to play Joanne.

Jordan: How about the girl from Thursday?

Mike: Hmm….which one?

Jordan: The brown-haired girl with glasses.

Mike: How tall was she?

Jordan: About one hundred and sixty centimeters, so she’d look good with Idina.

Mike: She’s a bit heavyset, though. Can she dance?

Jordan: Let’s schedule a callback for Monday. Pick a few others too.

 

B.      Schedule:

I.      Andy is trying to ask Miyuki out. However, he made a big mistake and tried to ask Miyuki out during exams. When is Miyuki free?

Andy: Miyuki, can I ask you something?

Miyuki: Sure, Andy. What is it?

Andy: Would you like to go out for coffee sometime this week?

Miyuki: Well, I’d love to, but I’m pretty busy this week. When did you want to go?

Andy: How about Thursday?

Miyuki: Sorry, but I have an exam on Friday, so I’m going to study on Thursday.

Andy: How about on Friday, after your exam?

Miyuki: I’m going to Tokyo Friday and Saturday for a volleyball tournament.

Andy: Oh, then how about Sunday afternoon?

Miyuki: I’m not doing anything then. Where should we meet?

 

II.     Mike is way too busy, but he still wants to study Japanese. Please listen to him talk about his daily life, then fill in the blanks.

 

I always get up at six-thirty. I take a shower, put my clothes on, and have breakfast. At seven fifteen  I walk to the bus stop, and catch the seven thirty bus to my school. It takes about an hour and a half, so I usually study or do homework on the bus. I have class until six, but I usually stay in the lab until eight or nine to work on projects. Sometimes I even sleep at school. My friends sometimes talk about their favorite TV shows, but I hardly ever have time to watch TV. If I get some free time here and there, I try to study Japanese. What should I do?

 

C.      First Meeting

Barry: Hey, I’m Barry, nice to meet you.

Evan: Hey Barry, I’m Evan.

Barry: Where are you from mate?

Evan: I’m Canadian. You’re from Australia?

Barry: Yeah, I’m from Melbourne. What brings you to the States?

Evan: I’m an engineer. I work at Boeing. You?

Barry: I teach literature up at UW.

Evan: What do you do in your free time?

Barry: I like to play amateur rugby.

Evan: Rugby, eh?

Barry: Yeah, you should join mate, it’s awesome.

Evan: I don’t know….
